NCAA Champs/Life Skills

Academics | Athletics | Personal Development | Service | Career Development

The NCAA sponsored Champs/Life Skills program is committed to the total development of student-athletes; preparing them with "life skills" that are useful throughout college and post-graduation. This program, called C.A.T.S. (Challenging Athletes To Succeed), was implemented at SUNYIT in 2000 and has been extremely successful in assisting student-athletes in the areas of academics, athletics, personal development, service, and career development.

In order to maximize the program’s potential, it is important to research your University/College for programming and activities that could benefit your student-athletes. The other vital piece is to survey your student-athletes to see what programming is necessary for them to be successful as a student and as an athlete. The SAAC (Student-Athlete Advisory Committee) has been a crucial part of this plan by gathering information from their teams and relaying the information to the Athletic Administration. We have employed many activities to satisfy those commitments developed by the NCAA and those desires requested by our very own student-athletes. A sampling of activities have been listed with each of the five areas of the program’s commitments.
