MORRISVILLE, N.Y.- The SUNY Poly men's basketball team will play their North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) semifinal playoff game against Lancaster Bible on Saturday, February 23rd at 4:00 PM at Morrisville State. The Wildcats are coming off a big quarterfinal win over SUNY Cobleskill on Tuesday. They defeated the Fighting Tigers 72-51 at home.
The red-hot Wildcats have won 8 straight games and 10 of their last 11. Over this span senior Redell Freeman (Rochester, N.Y.) and sophomore Josh Gregory (Whitesboro, N.Y.) have carried the scoring load for the Wildcats both averaging over 20 points per game during the winning streak. They have also had many game to game contributions from Tyshaun Copper (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Peyton Griffiths (Milford, N.Y.), and Malik Johnson (Highland Falls,N.Y.). Overall, they have won with dominate offensive performances, active and opportunistic defense, and hustle to make this playoff push.
The last time the Wildcats squared off against the Lancaster Bible Chargers the team was on the back end of a southern road trip where they beat Gallaudet on Saturday, got out to a hot start, bit fell just short 71-67. SUNY Poly was led that game by Redell Freeman who had 22 points and 10 rebounds. Josh Gregory dropped 19 points. The slim loss at Lancaster marked the Wildcats turning point in their season, making this matchup very interesting.
Lancaster's road to the final four was slightly easier than the Wildcats. The Chargers earned a first round bye after earning the #1 seed in the South in a tie-breaker with Penn State Abington. The Chargers come into the game 14-11 with an 11-5 NEAC record.
The Wildcats will take on Lancaster Bible on Saturday, February 23rd at 4:00 PM on the campus of Morrisville State. The winner of the game will advance to the NEAC Championship Game on Sunday to face off with the Winner of the game between #1 Morrisville and #4 Penn State Abington.
