MARCY, N.Y. - The Wildcats fell to Delhi on Thursday in the men's lacrosse home opener 14-5. The Wildcats started slow, allowing Delhi to get off to a 4-0 lead in the first. The second quarter was also advantage Delhi as the Broncos rattled off four more unanswered goals before the Wildcats got on the board late in the quarter. The Wildcats got some offense going in the third and fourth quarter, but it was not enough to mount a comeback.
Chase LaCava (Syracuse, N.Y.) and Tyler Heldt (Cicero, N.Y.) contributed two goals each in the loss. LaCava had two goals on five shots. LaCava also had two groundballs in the game. Heldt took eight shots, landing six on goal and also had two groundballs.
Daniel Rivie (Ossining, N.Y.) had a goal in the game. The sophomore landed three of his eight shots on goal and had two groundballs. Connor Elsenbeck (Clinton, N.Y.) had both of the Wildcats assists in the game. Elsenbeck also tied a game high with six groundballs and had a caused turnover.
On defense, Nicholas Brennon (Utica, N.Y.) had a team high three caused turnovers in the game and scooped up four groundballs. Robert Cicak (Binghamton, N.Y.) had two caused turnovers for the Wildcats.
For Delhi Malik Talbert had a game high 7 points on three goals and four assists. Jeremy Leary also had 10 points on four goals and two assists. Connor Filiberto had a game high four caused turnovers and tied a game high with six groundballs. Brandon Katz earned the win in goal for Delhi. Katz made 12 saves on 15 shots in 55 minutes of play.
The Wildcats fall to 1-3 on the season with the loss while Delhi improves to 2-3. The Wildcats will be back in action on Saturday, March 25th when they will host SUNY Canton in a non-conference game. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 PM start at SUNY Poly's Wildcat Field.
