MLAX: Elsenbeck Scores Four in Wildcat Loss to Utica.

MARCY, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly men's lacrosse team hosted local rival Utica College on Monday night in a non-conference game that saw the Wildcats lose 19-8. The Wildcats played the Pioneers hard for three quarters before succumbing to the Utica attack. Entering the third quarter the Wildcats trailed the Pioneers 8-6. An 11-2 run to end the game by Utica was the deciding factor in the game.

The Wildcats played extremely hard in the game. The team left everything on the field, giving max effort and competing with the more established Utica College team. The Cats' struggled in the faceoff circle, which made a big difference in the game. The Wildcats recovered just nine of 31 face-offs and were out performed in the groundball category 52-30. The Wildcat offense kept the pressure on the Utica defense throughout the game posting their second highest shot total of the season with 44, 25 of which were on goal.

Connor Elsenbeck (Clinton, N.Y.) had a huge game for the Wildcats. The senior scored four of the Wildcats eight goals and had a team high eight groundballs. Elsenbeck was efficient shooting the ball, he landed six of his eight shots on goal for a .750 shooting percentage.

Joey Beyer (Long Beach, N.Y.) had two points on a goal and an assist in the game. The senior took three shots, putting two of them on goal. Beyer also had a groundball and a caused turnover in the game.

Chase LaCava (Syracuse, N.Y.) also had two points in the game. LaCava had a team high two assists, tied a team high with two caused turnovers, and had two groundballs.

Daniel Rivie (Ossining, N.Y.), Tyler Heldt (Cicero, N.Y.), and Edward Rosaschi (Highland Mills, N.Y.) each had a goal in the game. Rivie had a groundball and a caused turnover. Heldt had three groundballs and a caused turnover. Rosaschi had three groundballs and a caused turnover.

Robert Cicak (Binghamton, N.Y.) and Nicholas Brenon (Utica, N.Y.) led the way defensively for the Wildcats.  Cicak had two caused turnovers and two groundballs. Brenon had three groundballs and a caused turnover.

Andrew Barreca (Pittsford, N.Y.) had a season high 19 saves in goal for the Wildcats. The junior played all 60 minutes in goal, facing 38 shots.

For Utica, Brickman House had a game high seven goals on seven shots. House also had five groundballs and three assists in the game. Dominic Castiglia and Jake Bratek each had two goals. Bratek also had two assists and two groundballs for the Pioneers. Nick Finnegan was dominant in the faceoff circle. He went 21-28 and had a game high 14 groundballs. Finnegan also had an assist and a caused turnover. Harrison Bower earned the win in goal for the Pioneers. He made 17 saves in the game on 25 shots.

The Wildcats are now 1-5 in the 2017 season. With the win, the Pioneers improve to 3-3. SUNY Poly will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Bard College under the lights at SUNY Poly's Wildcat Field. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
