MLAX: Wildcats Beaten in NEAC Opener 16-6 by Keuka.

MARCY, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly men's lacrosse team hosted Keuka College on Saturday in the first North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) game of the season. The Wildcats played the Wolves close in the first half, gaining the lead in the second period 4-3. Keuka would rattle off four unanswered goals to end the half, giving them a 7-4 lead. The Wildcats would add just two goals to their total in the third and fourth quarter combined, while Keuka would add nine to secure the win. The final score of the game was 16-6.

Daniel Rivie (Ossining, N.Y.) was the Wildcats top performer in the game. Rivie scored twice in the game, once in the first quarter and once in the third. He took eight shots in the game, landing four on goal. Rivie had a caused turnover in the game and tied teammate Chase LaCava (Syracuse, N.Y.) with a team high six groundballs.

Tyler Heldt (Cicero, N.Y.) also scored twice in the game for the Wildcats. Heldt took nine shots in the game landing two on goal. Heldt also had two groundballs and a caused turnover.

Ryan Saunders (Greeneich, N.Y.) and Connor Elsenbeck (Clinton, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring for the Wildcats. Saunders had a goal and a groundball. Elsenbeck had a goal, two groundballs, and a caused turnover.

Jonathan Sobolewski (Staten Island, N.Y.) went 7-13 in the faceoff circle for the Wildcats. Rivie went 4-12.

Andrew Barreca (Pittsford, N.Y.) earned the loss in goal for the Wildcats despite making 14 saves in 60 minutes of play.

Chase LaCava had a team high three caused turnovers in the game. LaCava also had six groundballs.

For Keuka, Craig Gerhardt and Andrew Burns each had five goals in the game. Gerhardt had three assists, four groundballs, and a caused turnover. Burns had two assists and eight groundballs. Matt Mahalik went 14-25 on faceoffs and had a game high 13 groundballs. Mahalik also had two goals and an assist. Mark Shattuck had a game high five assists and two goals for a total of seven points. Dustin Springer had a game high four caused turnovers. Ryan Mavretish earned the win in goal for the Wolves making eight saves in 53 minutes.

The Wildcats record is now 1-6 overall and 0-1 in the NEAC. The Wolves improved to 3-3 on the year and earned their first NEAC win. The Wildcats will be back in action on Wednesday, April 5th when they host Hilbert in a Conference game at SUNY Poly's Wildcat Field. The game is scheduled for a 5:00 PM start.
