Wildcats Earn Split on Day One of SUNYIT Invitational

MARCY, N.Y. – The SUNYIT Men's Volleyball Team (1-1) earned a split on their first day of competition in the 2013 season, winning a 5-set thriller over Mount Ida before falling to Emerson.

The Wildcats won the first set 25-21, then promptly dropped the next two in a row, each by a score of 25-19. With their backs to the wall the young SUNYIT team showed a veteran team's moxie, winning the fourth set 25-19 and then outlasting Mount Ida in the fifth, 15-13.

Freshman Sean Conte (???) led the team with 15 kills, while Timothy Maracic (???) added 12 of his own on an efficient .400 hitting percentage.

In the second match SUNYIT ran up against a strong Emerson team, losing 3-1. To SUNYIT's credit, though, the Wildcats again responded when down, winning an emotional third set 30-28. Conte again delivered 15 kills for the 'Cats, but was assisted this time by Evan Smith (???), who contributed 12 kills in the match.

With a lot of young talent, the Wildcats should be fun to watch this season. The team's next matches are scheduled for Saturday as they wrap up day two of the 2013 SUNYIT Invitational with matches against Sage (10:00 am) and Hilbert (12:00 pm).
