AURORA, N.Y. – The SUNYIT Men's Volleyball Team (6-9 Overall) picked up three victories over the weekend at the Wells College Invitational. The Wildcats defeated Wells and Cazenovia on Friday before defeating NY Polytechnic on Saturday.
The Wildcats dominated the weekend, winning all three matches in straight sets (3-0).
In the first match against the host team, Dan O'Connor tied with Evan Smith to lead the Wildcats with 8 kills while Sean Conte led with 14 digs. SUNYIT just barely hung on to win the first set of the match, 27-25 before winning the remaining two sets more comfortably, 25-20 and 25-20.
For the Wildcats' second match on Friday, the team left little to doubt. In the straight set win SUNYIT never allowed more than 13 points in any set. Timothy Maracic led the Wildcats in the win with 14.5 points, including 8 kills on just 9 total attempts for an incredible .778 hitting percentage. Maracic also led the team with 6 service aces on the match.
Finally, on Saturday it was last week's NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week Alan Davids carrying the load, as the freshman led all players with 10 kills on a .500 hitting percentage. On the defensive side Justin Rich picked up 9 digs to lead the Wildcats, as the team completed its weekend sweep with a 3-0 win over Polytechnic, 25-15, 25-16, 25-23.
The Wildcats will be back in action this Wednesday as they host Stevens in a UVC match up. Match time is set for 6:00 pm.
