SUNYIT Finishes Opening Tournament at 3-1 After Splitting Saturday Matches

MARCY, N.Y. – The SUNYIT Men's Volleyball Team (3-1, 0-0 NEAC) moved to 3-1 after splitting their matches on Saturday. After dropping the first match to eventual SUNYIT Invitational Champion Wentworth Institute of Technology, the Wildcats bounced back with a 3-0 win over D'Youville.

In the morning match, SUNYIT fell to a talented Wentworth team in straight sets. The Leopards registered an astounding .466 hitting percentage as a team en route to the victory, as the Wildcats struggled to get anything going against a tall Wentworth front line.

In the noon match the Wildcats rebounded to sweep the D'Youville Spartans in convincing fashion, 25-16, 25-13, 25-18.

Sophomore Sean Conte (Hilton, N.Y. / Hilton) had a big day on the right side for the Wildcats, recording a team-high 9 kills on just 14 attempts and only 1 error, good for a .571 hitting percentage.

Evan Smith (Saugerties, N.Y. / Saugerties), Matthew Cardot (Rush-Henrietta / Sperry), and senior Timothy Maracic (Franklin Square, N.Y. / Carey) contributed 5 kills apiece as well for the Wildcats, who will head to Sage on Wednesday for a single match at 7:00 pm.
