GANSEVOORT, N.Y.- SUNYIT freshmen Matthew Cardot (Rush-Henrietta, N.Y. / Sperry) was named North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Student-Athlete of the Week for Men's Volleyball on Monday.
Cardot claimed the NEAC Men's Volleyball Player of the Week after a stout week for the SUNY Institute of Technology Wildcats. The freshman outside hitter led the Wildcats to a 2-1 record after racking up 24 kills, 19 digs and two blocks through 11 sets played on the week. Cardot opened the week with six kills on 15 attempts while racking up a match-best seven digs to lead SUNYIT to a 3-0 sweep over Sage last Wednesday, before helping the Wildcats to a 1-1 split during a home tri-match with Southern Vermont College and defending conference champion Keuka College Saturday. After racking up a team-best 11 kills in addition to six digs and two assisted blocks in a tightly contested 3-2 loss to Southern Vermont, Cadot helped SUNYIT rebound with a 3-0 sweep over Keuka behind seven kills on a match-best .294 hitting percentage (7-2-17) to go along with six digs. Cardot is now third in the NEAC in total kills with 43 for the Wildcats, who are currently 5-2 overall.
