KEUKA PARK, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly men's volleyball team traveled to Keuka College on Friday for a tournament matchup with Penn State Beherend. The Wildcats had their hands full with a streaky Nittany Lions team that would take them to five sets. The Wildcats would emerge with the win after the nearly two hour match 3-2 (25-14, 21-25, 25-16, 22-25, 15-9).
A.J. Davids (Hilton, N.Y. / Hilton HS) led the way for the Wildcats with a match high 20 kills, three service aces, seven digs, three block assists, and a solo block. Davids has now recorded double digit kills in five of the six matches this season.
Zach Goggin (Feeding Hills, Mass. / Agawam HS) had a solid match for the Wildcats, setting the team for a .331 hitting percentage. He tied his season high with 53 assists, a mark that he first set against Elms. He is now averaging just under nine assists per set. Goggin also recorded three kills, a team high four service aces, and a dig.
Nick Hagan (Hilton, N.Y. / Hilton HS) and Max Szuba (Irondequoit, N.Y. / Irondequoit HS) hit phenomenally in the match. Hagen led all players with a .565 hitting percentage. He recorded 15 kills on 23 swings and added three service aces and a dig. Szuba had a .478 hitting percentage with 14 kills on 23 swings. Szuba currently leads the Wildcats with a .420 hitting percentage through six matches.
With the win the Wildcats improve to 4-2 on the season. The team will be back in action on Saturday when they will host a quad-match at SUNY Poly's Wildcat Field House. They will play Newbury at 2:00 PM and Regis at 4:00 PM.
