AURORA, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly softball team finally got the chance to open up their North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) schedule last weekend after weather delayed their last two conference games. The Wildcats took on Keuka on Saturday, losing the first game 15-3 and the second game 7-2. On Sunday the Wildcats traveled to Wells losing the first game 3-1 and the second 1-0.
On Saturday The first game was won by the Wolves of Keuka 15-3, ending in a five inning mercy. The Wildcats had eight hits in the game but were unable to push across the necessary runs. The Wolves had 15 runs on just nine hits.
Taylor Hines () was tagged with the loss, allowing 12 earned runs in four innings. Colleen Mooney earned the win for Keuka throwing a complete game with five strikeouts.
Lindsey Leone () had two hits for the Wildcats. She went 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Taylor Hines also had two hits in the game with an RBI. Shannon Johnson had a game high four RBIs for Keuka and went 3-3. Tally McDonald homered in the game.
The second game of the double header was another loss for the Wildcats. Keuka got a complete game from pitcher Janesse Vaadi. She allowed two runs on four hits and had five strikeouts. Celine Laracuente () was the pitcher of record for the Wildcats, earning the loss.
The Wildcats managed just four hits in the game. One each from Lindsey Leone, Aliza Mathis (), Taylor Hines, and Danielle Witchley (). Hines had the Wildcats lone RBI in the game. Katelyn Warren went 2-3 for Keuka with a walk. Alexa Brown and Samantha Blum each had a homerun in the game.
On Sunday, the Wildcats lost two close games. In the first game against Wells the Wildcats got on the board first on a Taylor Hines single to right field that scored Lindsey Leone in the top of the first. Wells bounced back to take the lead in the bottom of the second on a fielder's choice and a wild pitch. Wells would tack on one more run on an RBI single in the fifth to secure the win.
Corrina Laracuente () was tagged with the loss, allowing two runs in 1.1 innings pitched. Naomi Kubo earned the complete game win for the Wells Express. She allowed seven hits and struck out three.
Lindsey Leone was the only Wildcat with multiple hits in the game. Baylee Pearce went 2- 3 for the Expresswith an RBI. Autum McLain also had two hits for Wells.
Game two was a pitchers duel between the two teams. Wells DP Jessica Conover drove in the lone run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning on a single to right field, scoring Sydney Cullen from third. Baylee Pearce would close out the complete game shutout in the top of the seventh with a one, two, three inning.
The Wildcats are now 5-9 in 2017 and are 0-4 in NEAC Play. The team's next four games are all against Cobleskill. The Wildcats play two at Cobleskill on Tuesday at 3:00 and 5:00 PM and will host Cobleskill on Wednesday at 3:00 and 5:00 PM.
