MARCY, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly women's soccer team advanced to the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Final Four with a 3-1 win over Morrisville State in the NEAC Quarterfinal round. The Wildcats scored two goals in the second half to earn their second win over the Mustangs this season.
Morrisville would answer just over a minute later with an unassisted goal by Madison Shoemaker who gathered a rebound off the keeper and scored to knot up the game at 1-1.
The game would remain tied until the 73rd minute when Adrianna Marcolin (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) found an unmarked McKenna Hungerford (Morris, N.Y.) at the top of the box. Hungerford gathered the pass, set, and took a beautiful shot that found the top left corner of the goal to give the Wildcats the 2-1 lead.
Nakeya Stedman scored her second goal of the game to give the Wildcats a two-goal cushion with 10 minutes to go in the game. The goal came off a through ball from Meral Evke (New Hartford, N.Y.) that found Stedman speeding past the Morrisville defense.
The Wildcat offense did a fantastic job controlling the tempo of the game, outshooting the Mustangs 15-6, landing 40 percent of their shots on goal. That control on offense lightened the load on the defense, who put a damper on the Morrisville forwards.
Angela Bartlett (West Winfield, N.Y.) earned the win in goal for the Wildcats, improving to 13-3-1 this season. Brianna Sorriento was credited with the loss. She made three saves in the game.
The Wildcats will advance to the NEAC Final Four which will be held this weekend at either Penn State Berks or SUNY Poly depending on the outcome of the Southern Division's 1 vs. 4 quarterfinal game. If Berks wins, they will host as the overall one seed. Game times will be announced later this evening by the NEAC.
