MARCY, N.Y. – As the fall sports regular season draws to a close, multiple SUNYIT teams will be celebrating their seniors. Wildcat students, faculty, and alumni are encouraged to attend to help honor the student-athletes that have given their careers to SUNYIT.
The SUNYIT Women's Volleyball Team (25-3, 9-1 NEAC) will get things started with a home match this Wednesday at 6:30 pm. The Wildcats, who at one point won 24 matches in a row this year, will look to add to their school-record number of wins as they take on a talented Oswego State team. Among the seniors to be honored are captains and multiple-time NEAC All-Conference players Kaitlyn Harrington (Central Square, N.Y. / Paul V. Moore) and Taviot Jackowski (LaFayette, N.Y. / LaFayette), as well as last year's SUNYIT Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year Jessica Sass (Kingston, N.Y. / Kingston).
The SUNYIT Men's Soccer Team (12-1-1, 6-1 NEAC) will honor its seniors in a noon match with last year's NEAC Champion Morrisville State on Saturday, October 26th.
The Wildcats are in the midst of an historic season, as the team jumped to #7 in the East Region rankings as of last Monday's poll. With a 6-1 record in conference, the team will be looking to secure a high seed in the upcoming NEAC tournament. Among the seniors to be honored are former NEAC Players of the Year Malick Faye (Bronx, N.Y. / MLK) and Diego Montaleza (New York, N.Y. / MLK), along with all-conference player Josh Kimber (Chittenango, N.Y. / Chittenango) and 2011 NEAC Tounrmanet Co-MVP Joe Pfaffenberger (Chester, N.Y. / Warwick Central).
Following the men's game on Saturday, October 26th, the women will honor their seniors in a 2 PM matchup with Morrisville. The Wildcats will honor a large senior class that includes all-conference players Stephanie Wurz (Whitesboro, N.Y. / Notre Dame) and Abbey Hanehan (Stillwater, N.Y. / Stillwater), along with team co-captain Jamie Elderbroom (Chittenango, N.Y. / Chittenango).
