Dan Liberto enters his first season at SUNYIT as head coach of both the men’s and women’s volleyball teams, following his hiring in August.
Liberto replaces Jake Bluhm, who accepted the position of Head Women’s Volleyball Coach at SUNY Plattsburgh over the summer.
Liberto comes to SUNYIT after a season with the Keuka Storm, where he assisted with both the men’s and women’s programs. Prior to that, he served for three seasons as the women’s assistant at SUNY Geneseo, and two seasons as the men’s assistant for national powerhouse Nazareth College.
As a player Liberto was a four-year standout at SUNY New Paltz, where he graduated in 2010 with majors in geography and history. He was a two-year team captain and compiled more than 1,000 career kills while earning first-team Metro Division honors in the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association in 2009.
In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Liberto recently completed a Master’s Degree in Athletic Administration from the College at Brockport. He has been active on the club circuit as well, coaching with both the Rochester-based Pace Bootlegger Volleyball Club and also the Victor Volleyball Club.
"Our Wildcat Athletics program looks forward to having Dan take over an already strong volleyball program and making it even better," said SUNYIT Athletic Director Kevin Grimmer of Liberto's hiring, continuing "he has the background and recruiting ability to do so, and we're excited to have him join our staff and work with our student athletes to continue the success of our volleyball teams."
